Get ready to experience another world-class golf facility, located right here in Central Florida! Rosen's Shingle Creek Golf Club - located on Universal Blvd. just 1/2-mile east of the Orlando Convention Center expansion, and within a mile of International Drive - is scheduled to open this December 2003.
This David Harman designed, par 72 (7,250 yard) championship golf course features undulating fairways and interconnected waterways. Bordered by a natural backdrop of dense oaks and pines, Rosen's Shingle Creek Golf Club lies along historic Shingle Creek - headwaters to the Florida Everglades - providing an ideal and unforgettable golf experience.
For over twenty years, David Harman has constructed golf courses for such noted architects as Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye, Tom Fazio and Arnold Palmer. His projects include courses like Kauri Cliffs in Northland, New Zealand and The Desert Inn in Las Vegas, Nevada. Of the more than 150 courses he has designed, over 20 of the courses have hosted tournaments for the PGA Tour, Senior PGA Tour and LPGA Tour.
"I am convinced that Shingle Creek will be an unforgettable golfing experience. Dave Harman's design is both innovative and classic while providing a challenging and rewarding game of golf for all skill levels. Our prime location, the natural beauty of the course, the first class amenities and our renowned commitment to excellence and service will distinguish us from all others in the Central Florida area. We are all very proud of our new addition to the Rosen Hotels & Resorts family."
- Harris Rosen, President
Rosen Hotels & Resorts
Harman's design objective for Rosen's Shingle Creek Golf Club was to make the course play fair while keeping it a unique and extraordinary test of golf. Assisting this effort are five sets of tees, which enables players to select their own degree of difficulty.
Some of the "signature holes" Harman has designed for this new course include:
#8 - This beautiful Par 3 can range from 215 to 135 yards. The tall pines behind the green frame the hole brilliantly as Mr. Harman has guarded this putting surface with a large bunker long, in addition to more sand and a water hazard on the right. The green is sloped from the back right to the front left, and favors a fade since the bailout area is located short and to the left.
#10 - The back nine begins with a 440 yard (from the back tees) Par 4, which has a slight dogleg to the left. Hitting towards Shingle Creek, the tee shot requires a slight draw to a wide fairway guarded by a water hazard on the left. A good drive should leave the player with a mid-iron to a green protected to the left by sand. Hole locations on the right side of the putting surface could bring the tall pines that overhang the right side of the green into play.
#11- This intimidating Par 5 plays 580 yards from the back tees and will challenge even the longest of hitters, since water guards the right side of the driving area. A good drive will leave the player a generous lay-up area between four bunkers on either side of the fairway. A long hitter does have a chance to hit the green in two shots by running the ball up through the approach, but there are bunkers surrounding the rest of the putting surface to contend with. After a good lay-up, a wedge can be played to a smallish green, sloped back to front. Ideally, the player will want to keep the ball short of the pin for an uphill putt.
